You know, the line between good and evil is thin and sometimes, if you’re in the middle, you need more points of view to understand, but this very often escapes us, and the bad guy may not be as bad as we think.
Mary is a determined and messy girl, Juan, on the other hand, is sweet and courageous, in short, let’s say that they are the perfect protagonists for this story, but it does not focus only on this, in fact love is not the main topic, everything it intertwines and you will struggle at first to understand which side you are on, but after that everything will be clearer to you, you will become attached and in some cases you will pay the consequences, if you read it you will understand what I mean.
I hope you like it as much as I did, happy reading in case you read it 🤗

The review is divided into 3 sections:

𝙑𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙨 : if you love these mythical creatures, this book is exactly what you need to read! Samantha manages to mingle canonical elements that we all know about these creatures with some original and very interesting new concepts and elements. I loved this side of the novel because it remains close to the original tradition and legend of the vampires but,at the same time,it isn’t boring nor feels like a story heard many times, because these original but coherent elements make it innovative and you will want to know more about this world and its magical system.

𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙨 : the book’s structure is based on the costant altering between past and future. This surely helps to keep the reader’s attention high. You will can’t help but be curious about the backstories of the characters as well as find out how and why they became the persons that they are in the present.Sometimes, the problem with this kind of structure in the books is that they are confused or the reader makes a great effort to follow all the storylines…this is not the case!
Samantha’s writing style is sooo clear that you will never find yourself to think “Oh my god, I don’t understand what is happening”.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 : all the characters are well characterised and they capture the reader’s empathy and love. They are complex and sooo realistic even if they are vampires. They cry, make mistakes, laugh and love and they are never 100% bad or 100% good. They’re all gray characters that have always a valid motivation to act as they do and their characterization is always coherent with how they behave.
Of course, there is a “good side” and an “evil side” but I assure you that there isn’t one character that is evil just because she/he wants so but their reasons are well argumented and valid.
You know me: I love grey characters but I love they more when they are not plain but well structured and this is exactly what Samantha gave me.

I wasn’t expecting to read an amazing gothic fantasy book. It’s about vampires, I love reading books I wouldn’t normally pick up!
Set in the 1800s in Havana, Juan Cortez is a rich man who wants to meet a woman who can give him children. Mary comes along and he is smitten something which is unexpected. And the spice between these two is hot and spicy! One night it all changes and his amazing wife is not who she appears to be. I cannot give too much away as this will ruin all the plot twists you won’t be expecting. All the secondary characters are flawed and absolutely brilliant! Pick this up if you love dark romances, gothic fantasy, vampires and demonic powers!

This story is complicated and intricated but organized in everythink.
All situation are complementary with personages and developments.

Evil’s fire is the translation of L’origine del male, a very original story of vampires, with also themes like love and friendship.

If you want to read something different, interesting and mythologic, this book could be your perfect reading and it could be perfect also if you are trying to improve your english!

I really loved Samantha’s writing style and I also appreciated all the stories, feelings and features of our characters: what they are now is dictated by their past.
There are a lot of flashbacks, that will help us understand characters’ actions and thoughts.

And page after page, you will find out that nothing is as it seems, there are many surprises and nothing will be taken for granted.

Don’t miss it! ❤️‍🔥

If I fell in love with the “original” version, I can say that I had to change my mind about the English version, and I certainly speak positively. Usually I don’t like translations of books from one language to another, I like reading books in the language in which they were written but in this case I can say I’m surprised!

The English version is very musical, always flowing and pleasant. It was like re-reading the story for the first time, and all the emotions came back.

“Evil’s Fire” is the new book of the italian writer Samantha Garbero, translated by Nick Paccino and Annie Ogliastro. 📖 This novel, which is the English translation of “L’Origine del Male”, is the perfect union of dark romance stories, mystery, horror settings and scenes and passionate and impossible love stories. This original plot, which includes more literary genres, creates a very interesting story that capture the reader up to the last page. ✒️ The fluid style of the author brings the reader since from the first pages into a vortex made of unmentionable confessions, time jumps, gorgeous castles and dark terrifying forests full of frightening creatures. Into these settings, created with every kind of particularly, our characters make their moves and, for the lovers of dark romance genre, we can feel in it some Twilight’s vibes. 😈 A perfect novel for Halloween’s day (and not only!), which will not disappoint both the incurable romantic and horror lovers and, furthermore, a beautiful book with a fantastic graphic design outside and insides the pages. I’ve liked it very very much! Vote ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Don Juan Cortez, after the sudden death of his grandfather, decides to create a family and marry a certain Mary Hallen, known through an exchange of letters. But nothing is ever as it seems…

Samantha takes us first to one era, then to another, dragging our attention from one character to another, between mysteries and secrets, in a fantastic horror/dark romance!🤩

But… speaking about the protagonists, they are perfectly describes: you really feel everything they feel! I loved how the story is “real”: there are no bad guys and good guys but there are people.🫢

An excellent discovery and a fantastic read. Absolutely recommended: I didn’t expect that the story involve me so much. And you, are you ready to discover “Evil’s Fire”?😱

That you read it in Italian or English this novel always leaves you breathless.
The plot is gripping, full of suspenses, mysteries, love, fears and lots of dark. I loved the characters, from the protagonist to the antagonist; they are all endowed with introspection and the reader can empathize with their attitudes and understand their feelings. The ending tore a few tears… The internal graphics are perfect and the cover is beautiful and elegant. I’ll tear it up! Buy it, you won’t regret it!

Extraordinary book!

A jumble of different genres enclosed in just over 200 pages: romance, dark, fantasy, horror, thriller… It has it all and absolutely doesn’t confuse the reader!
The writer manages to drag you into the story right from the start.
The protagonist who upsets the lives of those around her, and manages to shock readers too!
Highly recommended!

The story is flowing and manages to intrigue already from the first pages thanks to the characterization of the different characters.
The strengths of the novel are: meticulous but not verbose flashbacks, mature and clear language, the sex scenes are clean and never vulgar and finally the story and the characters are better structured, with the right narrative space.
“Evil’s fire” was a breath of fresh air for me, because it still makes you hope for love, the real one…
If you love dark romances, I recommend buying the book: it’s really worth it!

First of all I would like to thank the author for the trust placed in me and for sending me a copy with a very cute dedication and themed bookmarks!

“Evil’s Fire” is not the usual story about vampires that we all know. Set in 19th century Havana, Don Juan Cortez wants to marry a woman who will give him children and take care of the house, but without having a real love story with her. After all, he is a rich merchant who travels the world in search of treasures, he has no time for love. Everything changes after meeting his future wife Mary Hallen. A beautiful, elegant and sensual woman who immediately steals her husband’s heart. After the wedding, the both of them seem to fall deeply in love, even if after a rather strange night, Mary disappears.
It is revealed immediately that Mary is not Mary, someone has taken her place as she traveled to go to don Juan. Then, who is the woman that he married? What does that have to do with all the deaths that have occurred around her?
Juan does not seem to care much, he loves her and that’s the important thing. Together with two detectives and Mary’s real brother, they set off in search of this mysterious woman and each of them has a different unfinished business with her.

“Juan was at a perfect angle, and Mary’s creativity guided her hand: the profile of her husband, illuminated by the sun descending into the valley, was simply magnificent.”

What can I say, a book full of plot twists. The narration starts as simple and fluid. Everything seems to be in order and I never expected all the developments and the evolution in the plot.
The author was very good at making the reader participate and unaware of everything in the same way.
The characters are well defined and I really enjoyed the different flashbacks on the stories of each of them. This allowed me to sympathize with everyone, even with those who didn’t convince me at first.
My favorite one is Juan, who believed he was immune to love and instead at the sight of Mary he fell for it hook, line and sinker.

“Don’t worry, we can sleep peacefully, at least for now…”

I recommend this book to all lovers of dark fantasy and gothic. A story that will grab you and never let you go!
